Symptom:

Motor sounds noisy - possible bad bearings or armature out of balance.

Solution

Disassemble and clean motor parts, turn and undercut commutator, balance armature, replace bearings and brushes, Load test motor.

Symptom:

Motor runs rough - possible open or shorted winding.

Solution

Rewind the armature, plus all of the repair procedures for above.

Symptom:

Motor trips current limiter - possible shorted windings or brush rigging grounded.

Solution

Rewind the armature and repair or replace the brush rigging, plus many of the repair procedures for above.

Symptom:

Motor will not turn with (internal) electrical brake disengaged - possible open brake coil.

Solution

Replace brake coil and pads as required, plus many of the repair procedures for above.

Symptom:

Motor exhibits a loss of torque - possible carbon build up or weak magnets.

Solution

Recharge or replace broken magnets as required, plus many of the repair procedures for above.
